Jane Aldridge Sea of Snowshoes

Heavy snow continues in the I-20 corridor in Central Mississippi. Heavy snow this hour at Vicksburg and Jackson. This activity is along the northern edge of a disturbance moving across southern Mississippi. This heavier snow will track into Sumter, Greene, Hale, Marengo and Choctaw Counties then eastward.
Accumulations will reach Snow flurries are being reported in Clanton right now.
Light snow covers much of the southern half of Alabama north of US-84. The intensity of this precipitation is increasing.
An area of moderate to heavy rain is just south of this snow area over extreme South Alabama and the Florida Panhandle.
Areas south of Eutaw to Clanton to Lafayette to US-84 will likely receive 2-5 inches of snow. Some spots will get more and the amounts could be remarkable, even historic in cases.
To the north, light snow is over North Central Mississippi. As it moves eastward, light snow will affect areas north of the Eutaw to Clanton to Lafayette line.
Radar returns are increasing now over Tuscaloosa, Fayette, Walker, Cullman, Blount and Jefferson Counties and you will start to see snow snow flurries then light snow as the morning wears on. Just got a report of light snow at Alliance in western Jefferson County.
We still expect 1-2 inches of snow in the I-20 corridor, with lighter amounts to the north of that.
Drier air over North and Central Alabama has been the enemy of the snow so far this morning. So far, the precipitation has been evaporating before it can reach the ground over North Central Alabama. That is changing now in West Alabama. Snow is being reported around Tuscaloosa and in Gordo as the atmosphere moistens.
