JANET STREET PORTER INTERVIEW

Janet Street-Porter dedicated the entire hour of her Sunday London Weekend Television show to a punk special on the Pistols, Clash, Siouxsie and other followers. The Pistols had been filmed previously, playing live at Notre Dame Hall, in Leicester Place, Soho.

This takes place in Steve's flat above their rehearsal gaff in Denmark Street. It's about 13 foot square and littered with guitars and clothes. Steve's still in bed while the others sit around.

Janet Street Porter: "Go on, who do you think's a good singer?"

JR: "I don't have any heroes - they're all useless."

JSP: "When you stood up and started singing for the first time, what 'appened.?"

Steve: "Go on John, go on."

JR: "It was wonderful."

JSP: "Oh come on."

JR: "People loved me. They threw flowers."

JSP: "Well look, I saw you the sixth time and people were quite shell-shocked."

JR: "Well then you know yourself don't ya!"

JSP "Yeah, but surely by making a record you are in a way becoming part of the system."

Steve: "Is it alright if I get up?" (Steve gets out of bed and walks in front of the camera in his leopard skin undies).

Paul: "Not if.... Not if you don't let yourself.

JSP: "But supposin' if your record's a success? Which there is a big chance it will be."

John: "Oh right, yeah, here we go."

JSP: "Supposin' you made a lot of money, what are you? How are you gonna be different from the Stones?"

JR: "I don't need a Rolls Royce, I don't need a house in the country, I don't need to live in the South of France. I'm 'appy as I am and gonna carry on."

Paul: "In Finsbury Park."

Steve: "With his brother."

JR: (irritated) "I don't live in Finsbury Park..."

Towards the end of the Seventies, the luggage handler of street was one of the principal presenters of the exposure of the weekend of LWT and, later, six hours of exposure.

LWT, the exposure of weekend of London (1976-77) was one of the first to begin punk and comprises the 'guns of sex' (before the incident of Grundy invoice) and the guns particularly by stages of a sex show, also comprising Siouxsie and the dissension.
