ニーソックス（knee socks）とは、膝上まである靴下（オー バーニーソックス）の日本における慣用的表現。
概要
膝よりやや上 までの、長い丈を持った靴下がこのように呼ばれる。市販されているものの丈は50～60cmぐらいのものが多く、標準的な体型の女性が 身につけた場合、膝より5～10cmほど上までが覆われる。黒色で薄手のものが多く着用されるが、その他の色や素材、レースなどで装飾が施されたもの、レース生地のもの、ボーダーなどの柄入りのものも売られている。
本来、ニーソックス及びニーハイソックス（knee-high socks）は、「膝丈」の靴下を表す言葉であるknee high。現代の日本においては、膝上丈の靴下を「ニーソックス」、多くは「ニーハイソッ クス」と呼び、「オーバーニーソックス」と同じ意味で浸透し、誤用されている。
正式名称は「オーバーニーレングスソックス」であり、英語圏では「オーバーニー」（over knee）と略される。さらに太ももまで届く丈のものは、thigh-high（腿丈）という意味のサイハイソックスと呼ばれ区別される。
ファッ ションとしての普及
ニーソックスは当初ロリータファッションの一部として見られていたが、2006年前 後からミニスカートやショートパンツとあわせて履く「美脚ファッション」として流行し、カジュアルな着こなしに留まらずフォーマル ファッション、ギャル系ファッション、制服、パンク・ファッション、メイド服など服装の種類を問わずに組み合わせる事が出来る事から、幅広いジャンルの若年層から根強い人気を得ている ファッションアイテムとなった。
とくにギャル系ファッションでは、ストッキングのようにセクシーさをアピールする事が出来るなどの理由で「エロかわファッション」として人気を集めている。通常のニーソックスと比 べ、ギャル系のニーソックスやサイハイソックスはセクシーさを強調するためレース入りのデザインであったりガーターベルトを付けて履かれる事がある。網タイツ式の物も人気を 得ていおいる。流行は今もなお衰える事が無く定着化しつつある。
