Interesting to see that a network was not yet airing a special on a holiday, but rather just another episode of one of its most popular shows.
The whole episode sounds amazing, the other guests included Woody Allen and the Muppets, both soon to become major figures in pop culture.
As for Criswell, he milked this shtick for all it was worth for decades, but his appearances in films by Edward D. Wood Jr. (a close friend and drinking buddy) would ultimately cement his legend.

One of my favorite characters has to be Jeron Criswell King, a pop psychic who was active in the 1960s and '70s.
Most of you probably know that he was in schlock director Ed Wood's stable of "actors," and appeared in many of his disastrous films.
